About us

The Institute is one of the prestigious national laboratories under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). The IHBT Library and Information Centre (IHBT-LIC) of the IHBT was established in the year 1982-83 with the inception Institute. IHBT-LIC is a special resource centre by its nature as it is serving the scientific and technical community. Its parent institution i.e. Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) is providing R&D services on economic bioresources in the western Himalayan region leading to value added Plants, Products Process for the industrial, societal & environmental benefit.

Genral Rules

The IHBT Library follows an open access system.

While entering the library, users should leave their personal belongings, such as bags, brief-cases, and parcels near the counter reserved for this purpose. However, they can carry loose papers and note books.

Users leaving the library should allow the library staff to examine their personal belongings.

Users should maintain peace in the library and should not disturb other users in any way.

Users should not deface, mark, cut, mutilate or damage library material in any way. If anyone is found doing so, he/she will be charged the full replacement cost of the material.

Users are requested to leave the reading materials on the reading tables. The Library staff will shelve these materials.

User responsible for any damage caused by him/her to the books or any other property belonging to the Library, shall be required to pay the penalty imposed upon him/her by the Library Officer.

Switch off your mobiles while entering the library.

The user should check the books before borrowing to ensure that these are not damaged. If a book is found to be damaged or certain pages are missing, the borrower should get this statement recorded on the book, otherwise he/she shall be held responsible for the damage, discovered at the time of returning the books.

Smoking, pan chewing and spitting in the library is prohibited.

Membership privileges of a user can be suspended on account of mis-behaviour with the Library staff or for indecent manners.

Library Collection

The Library subscribes to 45+ print journals and 2500+ online journals. The Library has a rich collection of books on Chemistry, Biotech, Genes, Nanotechnology, Book of Tea, Flora of Himachal Pradesh, Biodiversity and Other.
